Autopsy of Darkness: Bridges, Woods and Secret Doors
seance 01. CARVING THE NIGHTMARE
Ever witnessed an autopsy on a horror story? In this session we will introduce the
fundamental tools of the genre screenwriter, also known as The Unholy Trinity
[Character, Story, Lore], and use everyday elements from the city of Brugg as triggers
to develop our own original fantastic stories.
seance 02. AWAKENING THE CREATURE
We will give birth to our very own monster. By exploring historical events and different
folk tales from the region, we will “design” an original mythology with its own
unstoppable boogeyman. We will also discuss how ancient lores have managed to
survive to our days, by becoming subliminal horror symbols.
seance 03. THE SILENT SCREAM
I have no mouth and I must scream. Silence, space, suspense, and narrative restraint
can become powerful creative tools to make horror even more creepy, intimate and
disturbing. In the third meeting we will generate a complete supernatural short story
with no dialogue using only the elements suggested by the audience!
Pedro Cristiani is a multi-awarded screenwriter, showrunner and director. His works
include the hard sci-fi feature MOEBIUS [1997] and the extreme supernatural thriller
DEUS IRAE [2024]. He is a film professor at New York University and his Masterclasses
on Genre and New Forms of Production are part of the BIFFF [Brussels], the BIFAN
[South Korea], Ventana Sur [Cannes and Argentina] and Cinequanon Lab [Mexico].
Marcela Cárdenas-Alvarez is an Executive Producer focused on exploring and
developing New Storytelling Formats and Evolving Technologies. For the past four
years, she was the VFX Executive for Netflix LatinAmerica overseeing and giving
creative and technical support to over 100 film and episodic productions.
